Hairdressing Level 3,4,5 and 6

Hairdressing level 3 to 6 are a set of courses designed to equip individuals with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed to pursue a career as a professional hairdresser or hairstylist. These courses typically cover a wide range of topics related to hair care, styling, coloring, cutting, and salon management.

Here’s a breakdown of competencies that an individual must achieve to enable him/her to manage hairdressing services comprising of barbering, haircutting, hair addition, hair chemical reformation, hair colouring/lightening, hair setting and styling and production of hair piece products.

The units of learning comprising Hairdressing (at different levels) are as listed below:

BASIC UNITS (All levels)

  • Communication Skills
  • Numeracy Skills
  • Digital Literacy
  • Entrepreneurial Skills
  • Employability Skills
  • Environmental Literacy
  • Occupational Safety and Health Practices

CORE UNITS

  • Wash and Set services (3)
  • Plaiting and Braiding Services (3)
  • Barbering services/operations (3,4,5,6)
  • Hair Addition services/operations (4,5,6)
  • Hair Colouring (4,5,6)
  • Hair Setting and Styling Services/operations (4,5,6)
  • Hair Piece Production (4,5,6)
  • Hair Cutting services/operations (5,6)
  • Hair Chemical Reformation services/operations (5,6)
  • Hairdressing Operations Unit Management (6 only)
  • Industrial attachment (all levels)

Duration

  • Level 6 takes 3 years
  • Level 5 takes 2 years
  • Level 4 takes 1 year
  • Level 3 takes 6 months

Assessment

The course is assessed internally and externally. Internal assessment is continuous and is conducted by the trainer who is monitored by an accredited internal verifier while external assessment is the responsibility of TVET CDACC.

Certification

  • On successful completion of a Unit of Learning, a trainee is issued with a Certificate that acknowledges the achievement of that competence. 
  • On successful completion of ALL units of learning, a trainee is awarded an ICT Technician Certificate qualification.
  • These certificates are issued by TVET CDACC in conjunction with KTVC
